Yoni Steam 101.

In this article, I share how I do my own Yoni steam at home and make them to sell & gift to my wonderful Clients and how you can do this too at home.

I use an organic NON-GMO blend of herbs and use all safety precautions.

+ I also answer frequently asked questions on that topic.

The practice of yoni steaming is a beautiful, introspective ritual that you can incorporate as part of your monthly or bi-monthly (2x a month) self-care routine.

Like our noses, the sensitive vaginal tissue is very absorbent and rich in blood supply, so the medicinal properties of the herbs used in a steam can directly enter the bloodstream. For this reason, you want to select the herbs used for your steam with caution and correct knowledge.

The herbal recipe featured in this post is considered safe for most women. If you are dealing with any conditions or sensitivities (and even if you aren’t), it’s always best to research what herbs to work with or better yet, work with a trained herbalist.

This post is intended as a starter guide to yoni steaming.

Maybe you have heard of Yoni steaming by celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow or seen trends on Instagram & TikTok.

......Maybe not.

But a wave of concerns has appeared after women started to show an interest. It is actually depicted in some “healthcare-oriented websites” as a celebrity trend that is extremely dangerous and could cause vaginal infections.

In actuality, women have been womb steaming for a sent.

I don’t know about you but there’s something I instantly trust when I hear women have been using a holistic practice for generations and generations.

I’ve always trusted the power of plants and herbs but like most people, I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of safety concerns I found online.

Yoni steaming at home is my go-to technique to alleviate the cramps and regulate my periods. I have heard about it last year and decided to give it a go.

Down below I have added a list of times when to and when not to Yoni Steam, if your already asking yourself this Q's!

In no shape or form, I’m asking you to take my word and experience for it. We should always do our own research, and use safe products. However, I also want you to trust more what Mother Earth has been given us for centuries. It is time our medicine cabinet starts to look more like our spices shelf.

I am ONLY using safe and NON-GMO herbs to Yoni steam at home and I wanted to share my experience and hopefully encourage women to take care of their wombs too.

Simply put, a Yoni Steam is like a facial steam but for your lady parts. This ancient practice involves sitting over a pot of herb infused warm water and allowing the steam to tone, soften and rejuvenate both the interior and exterior realms.

Indeed, it is an ancestral self-care ritual, practiced for centuries by women around the world.

Yoni steaming is a simple traditional remedy that we, modern day women, can call upon to naturally treat the root causes of the challenges associated with the menstrual cycle.

It is an all-natural practice to help women to have harmonious menstrual cycles and a healthy uterine system.

Sam's experience yoni steaming at home

I like to be surrounded with good energy before I start my yoni steam ritual so I would usually sage my room first and open the windows. I like to lay my Waterproof Squirt Blanket™- Moon Blood down with come crystal surrounding me and/or Tarot cards/ Oracle.

- I use this particular blanket as its waterproof, warm and soft. + also VERY good for ... well its in the title!!

I would recommend keeping a journal or a notepad next to you to pass though any emotions, feeling or sensations though to paper, recognising and witnessing what your womb is saying to you. Trust what she is saying and try not to hold onto the story or feelings, as its just coming up to be observed, jotted down to be released.

+ Cozy socks and/or slippers – SO important to keep your feet super warm and cosy.

Then, I would follow with a 5 minutes womb meditation to release any anxiety :

  • For a womb meditation, I would focus my energy and breathing on my womb area while I place my hands on it. For further meditations, Sam can create a special meditation/ guidance for you.

When I feel ready I would boil 50 Cl of bottled water. Place it in a large glass bowl (avoid plastic) and add 2 teaspoons of the herbs or 1X packet of Sam's homemade goddess blend.

I would then squat on the bowl (in the yoga child’s pose). Making sure I am not too close to the bowl. As you can see in that picture below I have placed my blanket around my legs. This is to trap the steam in the area.

For 20 minutes I am in peace, relaxing and sometimes listening to some soothing meditation music or in silence.

This is the way I do it, but I know some other practices are talking about.

You can buy the cutest and handmade stools on Etsy if you are not comfortable in this position for too long.

Alternatively, you could place a pot in your toilet and sit on the toilet seat.

If you want to read or watch a show on your phone then it’s totally up to you. We all have different approaches and preferences.

Whatever works for you!

1) Set up your stool or whatever you are using in a comfortable, quiet place with your journal and pen, a glass of water and any altar items nearby. You can use palo santo or sage to clear out any old energy in the space.

2.) Place your herbs in your Glass bowl, pot or crock pot and then pour boiling water over them. The heat will help extract the volatile oils of the herbs. Set your crockpot to low, or your electric burner to low if you’re using that method. You can turn it up later if it’s not warm enough. Place the pot or crockpot under your stool with the lid fully on, so the steam doesn’t escape.

Alternatively allow the glass bowl to cool down AT LEAST 15/20MINS before kneeling over your bowl. I like to do child's pose over mine

3.) If you want to draw a tarot card, this would be a great time to do so. If there’s any other ritual you want to include in this practice, please do. You can read a passage from an inspiring book, repeat a mantra a few times, say a prayer, whatever resonates with you.

4.) Get undressed from the waist down. You can use a towel as padding for your butt on your stool or whatever you are sitting on (Or like me I go into child's pose on the floor). Put your socks and/or slippers on. Wrap a sheet around your lower body then wrap at least one more blanket around you. The blankets should reach all the way to the ground so they create a tent around your body. Keep in mind that the heavier and thicker the blankets you use, the hotter the steam will be. I like to use a my Yoni blanket as its waterproof and is has extra lining inside too.

Once you are all set up, release the steam very slowly. Start by removing the lid about a half inch. The heat should not feel intense, but light at first and will slowly build over the course of the steam. If you think it’s not warm enough though, you can remove the lid another half an inch. Just proceed with caution, as you do not want to burn your precious vaginal tissues!

IF YOU ARE MOVING INTO CHILD'S POSE/ KNEELING OVER YOUR GLASS BOWL you can do so now and wrap your town around your hips to keep the steam in.

6.) Steam for 20-30 minutes. You can use this time to meditate, go inward, write in your journal, be contemplative, read poetry, listen to music or a guided meditation, whatever you feel you need in the moment.

Once you are done steaming, you can offer the steeped water with herbs to any plants in your yard that you’d like to give special attention to.

I always offer mine to my garden as well as my Menstrual Blood too - if you haven't read my other Blog post on Introduction to Lunar Womb Healing I talk all about this there.

Once the time has passed try to remain wrapped and lie down for a nap. Remember that yoni steaming is a form of self care so don't rush it!

Can I yoni steam everyday ?

Ultimately, No.

You will disrupt the level of lactobacilli. The vaginal flora would then become imbalanced and this could cause a risk of infections. The infections will lead to symptoms such as itchiness, irritation, abnormal vaginal discharge, and burning feeling.

How often should I yoni steam ?

This should be kept at 1-3 month for an optimal and safe use.

Does yoni steam helps with smell ?

By restoring the health of your vaginal flora, and removing impurities, the smell could indirectly be improved.

Can yoni steam cause yeast infection ?

Yoni steam practiced safely at home with purified water and organic herbs should actually improve chronic yeast infections.

Can you do a yoni steam at home and is it healthy ?

Each woman is unique and might experience different symptoms.

Therefore, it is important to be cautious of your physical and mental health. I personally was never attracted to the idea of going to a “yoni steam salon”:

  • Firstly, for sanitary concerns (i mean you just never know how well these places are cleaned).

  • Secondly, by doing it at home I have the reassurance to where the herbs are coming from.

  • Lastly, I consider yoni steaming like an experience of reconnecting with self and my womb. I am not sold on the ‘client feel’.

You first need to know where the herbs are coming from. I have found many yoni steam business online with no accreditations or information on the source of their product.

You should ALWAYS look for the non-GMO and certified organic label on your herbs blend package.

I HIGHLY recommend to use bottled purified water and avoid tap water. In fact, using tap water could cause infections as it is full of chemicals such as fluoride, sulphates, and chlorines.

You should never steam while on your period or if you have open wounds caused by sexually transmitted infections.

You should also be careful of the water temperature to avoid burns on your private parts.

20 minutes is a safe time to steam. Any time longer than 30 minutes will not be beneficial for you.

Last but not least

I would like to remind you once again to take extra precautions when you carry out your first Yoni steam at home.

Furthermore, all this information is shared and channelled from the goddesses to keep alive ancestral rituals which has helped millions of women around the world.

While steaming you are practicing a holistic method and should, therefore, being in tune with the three pillars of holistic health BODY MIND and SOUL.

Yoni steaming can stay private or shared on your social media but ultimately it has to be done for the right reasons.

Dissipate your fears, let go of the concerns and assess what is best for you.

I hope this has helped you to understand the basics of a safe yoni steam at home.

If there are topics you would like to know more about or questions you might have, I would be more than happy to answer them in the comments or privately.

Thank you for reading.

Love, Light & Angel Blessings
